Anonymous asked: Hi Colin, are you still on the Budwig protocol or have you stopped that?
I actually stopped that awhile ago. While I’m not knocking the science behind it, I honestly couldn’t stomach one more spoonful of cottage cheese!
Anonymous asked: Has Davis come through? If not, I can be a little mean and condescending all at the same time, I just want to make things right! If they can't get this right, perhaps they should not be in business, or you should not have to pay for inept service and product, just sayin"
Davis did finally come through with my glasses, and I’m adjusting to them well. Thanks for asking, and I may take you up on your offer in the future!
The largest update from the last week is I still have not received my glasses. Apparently, they were ready to be shipped from the lab and they did not pass the final inspection (a problem with the anti-glare coating). I have been assured that the glasses will arrive today - I’ll update later tonight to let you guys know!
In other events, my physical therapy is going well, and Christine and I spent yesterday in Maryland with her parents - it was quite relaxing. I have chemo today, so I’ll also let you know how that goes!

Yesterday I FINALLY got my foot brace! Xavier at Hanger Orthotics did an amazing job, and the fit is perfection. Now I just have to learn how to walk normally again. I did not realize until I got the brace that I was tilting my head to account for my balance issues. My neck feels so much better and I am amazed how much my mobility has improved over the past twenty-four hours. My aunt and grandmother get praise for taking me to my appointment and for treating me and Christine to a great dinner at the Hill Cafe. My physical therapy session today was much easier with my new hardware. I did not trip over myself once!
I need to take a moment to thank those in my life who have altered their schedules for me since I am unable to drive for the time being. Eric (my big brother,) Anthony (my friend and roommate), Darryl, Dan, and Carri (my co-workers), and especially Christine for her daily tolerance of the ever-changing me and her support through everything.
Today was a busy day. I had an appointment to receive my Temador and to get an infusion of Avastin. I also had a few questions in regard to some other issues I was having.
The largest issue I have had is with congestion that has lasted now for a couple of months. Nothing over the counter has been able to clear it up, so my doctor gave me a prescription for Nasonex. I have also had issues with weight gain. I have gained thirty pounds of belly fat over the past two months. While the nurse I met with today did not have a definitive answer, she is looking into it for me.
My other issue is my recently VERY dry scalp, which has become a big issue over the past month. The only suggestions they had were a strong dandruff shampoo which I already do or baby oil. While I am eager to resolve the situation, I also want to still be attractive to my girlfriend - I also don’t relish the thought of waking up to a greasy pillow every morning. I also had physical therapy today which is now the only way I can ride a bike (stationary - it still counts!) My last appointment of the day was at the optometrist to get my glasses adjusted, as my double vision has still not improved. Thanks go out to Eric Messick to driving me around all day, Anthony Smith (@anthony___smith) for revising my web presence, and Christine Haines for being there through thick and thin. You guys are the best!!!

I went to Duke Medical Center this past week with my family to meet with Dr. Friedman about my to my therapeutic options. After intense discussion with my parents, I decided to become a patient of Duke and make visits to the Durham campus every two months. I would still get all my treatments in Richmond, but we thought it best to have another pair of eyes on my scans to offer another opinion.
Today (2.7.10), I am going back on Temadar, for the first time since I went through radiation. Along with Temadar, I will continue Avastin. One annoying thing is I am no longer on a clinical trial, which either I or my insurance have to cover the cost of my medications. I’m excited to try and new regimen to see if we will see some shrinkage and I’ll get some more mobility back. It’s important to remember how far I’ve come, and a wake up call can have positive side effects. I’ve been doing well for so long, but I need to maintain perspective and remember that every is a battle. I’m happy to have friends and family around me to push me every day.
Thanks go out to Eric Messick for designing and maintaining this website from the beginning. Check it out for more in-depth information about Colin’s treatment history.
Lately, I have had more issues with my numbness to the point that I have had trouble walking and problems writing. When this first became an issue in December, I had an MRI that did not show any noticeable change in my tumor. My neurosurgeon explained that did not necessarily mean there were no changes, they may just be so small that we cannot see them. When I went in January, there was enough of a change to cause concern. I started physical therapy to help with my balance and mobility and I have a consult at Duke Medical University tomorrow. Virginia Cancer wanted to make sure that I knew what all my options were. I’m going to Duke to see how we can be more aggressive. Things have been going so well for so long, it’s scary how much a small change in the tumor can make a huge difference in my right side. Hopefully, I’ll get some positive feedback from Dr. Friedman and his team at Duke and I’ll return to my old, spry self!
